GRK1721 Girls Workshop: Communicate - Influence - Network

Build your network of connections, initiate conversations, persuade others

14.06.2018 – 15.06.2018

The GRK1721 organized a course for the GRK1721 girls on how to communicate – influence – network.
Location: Gene Center

We all have plenty of opportunities to build our network of connections but this doesn’t happen just by chance. Being able to initiate conversations and make a good impression quickly, are key skills in making the most of your time at meetings, conferences or other gatherings.

Self-awareness, confidence and assertiveness when appropriate, are qualities essential for success in almost every area of life. They determine what you attempt, the strategies you adopt and how others respond. Most importantly, they determine the outcomes of your actions. These attitudes can mean the difference between success and failure. You will learn how to persuade others as well as how to network effectively to find collaborations and the best job for you.

Possible topics:

  • Break into established conversations
  • Make a good impression quickly
  • Start conversations; approach people you don’t yet know
  • How to communicate effectively and build productive working relationships
  • Making a positive impression in meetings, at conferences and in interviews
  • Building and maintaining appropriate confidence
  • Gaining self-confidence
  • Decision making
  • Persuading others

In the beginning of the workshop, the trainer will ask for preferred topics of the participants – so that your favorite topics are addressed more intensively.

The trainer is Rob Thompson from RTTA: He has worked both in industry and with research scientists and has over 10 years’ experience helping groups to improve their skills. Rob Thompson gives workshops to help scientists optimize their working practices and so become more productive.
